HIDDEN PATHS:
The Caves of Lake Vouliagmeni

Max Depth: 127m | Average Temp: 27°C

Located just 21km from the bustling center of Athens, within an ellipsoid sinkhole 260m long and 145m wide, lies the heart of a rare ecosystem of extraordinary natural beauty and multifaceted significance: Vouliagmeni Lake.

The submerged chamber on the northern side of the lake, characterized by its vast expanse and—for decades—unknown depth, remained a mystery shrouded in myth. Simultaneously, it has served as a focal point for international scientific research and exploration.

Years of multinational and domestic expeditions have finally provided a clear understanding of this unique karstic system, which continues to offer profound insights into our geological world.

Watch the history of this labyrinthine geological phenomenon and the significant scientific findings that have come to light through the lens of the Top2Bottom Diving Team, in collaboration with Up Stories, documenting an expedition conducted on April 14, 2024.
